Friday Night Cruisin’ In Wilkes-Barre, Pa. (2 of 3)

There was a time, not long ago when Camaro Berlinettas, Z-28s and IROC Zs roamed the streets. It was the 20th century and American cars still ruled. Every last Friday during the warm summer months the Public Square in Wilkes-Barre becomes a modern day version of the Heavy Metal Parking Lot as the coolest vintage rides come out for a night of cruising and competition.

The once a month car show consists of giveaways, prizes and lots of cool cars. These are rides that take us back to a time when hair was big and so were the motors and cars had names like Firebird, Monte Carlo SS, Grand National and Mach 1. There’s music broadcast which features everything from classics like the Beach Boys and the 80s hair bands to today’s Bruno Mars, Robin Thicke and Katy Perry. The show vehicles run the gamut of Pro streeters, trucks and classics and are all in attendance for the public to admire and to reflect on days gone by.

Cars that show are automatically entered in the drawing for the best of classes and the good times continue until about 10 p.m.. After that, all the cars come to life for a cruise around the Square. It’s a scene right out of the 80s as the sounds of high horsepower echos through all of downtown!
